BLS-4 : LIBRARY CATALOGUING THEORY

1.1  Discuss how a library catalogue is different from a bibliography, and other library records and trade catalogues.

OR

1.2  Explain the inner forms of a library catalogue. Differentiate between a classified and a dictionary catalogue.

2.1  Discuss with suitable examples different entries for a classified catalogue.

OR

2.2  Identify different parts of the main entry according to AACR2R. Describe them with

appropriate illustration.

3.1  Discuss the significance of ISBD in standardisation of bibliographic record format. Describe the different areas of ISBD (G).

OR

3.2  What are the major problems faced in cataloguing non-print media ? Describe the structure of their bibliographic descriptions according to AACR2R.

4.1  What do you understand by an indexing system ? Describe the features of pre-coordinate and post-coordinate indexing systems.

OR

4.2 Highlight the salieht features of Library of Congress Subject Heading with suitable examples.

5.0  Write short notes on  any three of the following

(in about  300  words each) :

(a)  Analytical entries

(b)  Alphabetico - classed catalogue

(c)  ALA filing rules

(d)  MARC project

(e)  PRECIS
